Erika Gamulin's successful defense of her doctoral thesis on the pharmacokinetics of snake antivenom

Assistant Erika Gamulin, dr. med. vet., on November 5, 2025, successfully defended her doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of Science entitled "Pharmacokinetics of intravenously and intramuscularly administered snake antidote in an experimental sheep model"The thesis was supervised by senior research associate Dr. Tihana Kurtović.

The defense was held at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and the dissertation makes a significant contribution to the understanding of the pharmacokinetics of antivenom. The research results showed that intramuscular administration of antivenom is not only effective, but also equal to intravenous administration in neutralizing the venom in the blood and lymph, with a very similar safety profile. These findings open the possibility of a wider and more practical application of antivenom in field conditions, where intravenous administration is often not feasible.

We congratulate our colleague Erika Gamulin on her successful defense of her doctoral thesis, her dedicated scientific work, and her valuable contribution to the field of toxicology and veterinary medicine. We wish her much success in her further professional and scientific work!
